Abstract Background

Myofascial Release

Fascia is a thin layer of connective tissue that weaves through every part of the body, linking muscles, joints, and organs into one continuous system. When this tissue becomes restricted—often from posture habits, stress, injury, or surgery—it can create tension, pain, and limited mobility. These restrictions don’t just affect one spot; they can influence how your entire body moves and feels.

Myofascial release works to restore fluidity and balance to these connective tissues. Through gentle, sustained pressure and mindful movement, the goal is to ease restriction, improve alignment, and help the body return to a more natural state of motion. This approach can be especially effective for people dealing with chronic pain, stiffness, or post-surgical changes that have altered the body’s natural mechanics.

Common reasons people seek myofascial release include:
✓ Muscle or joint discomfort
✓ Postural strain or imbalance
✓ Restricted range of motion
✓ Surgical scarring or adhesions
✓ Persistent tightness or tension
✓ Head, neck, or back pain
✓ A general feeling of being “stuck” in the body

As an Occupational Therapist, I integrate this work with your broader functional goals—helping you move more comfortably, efficiently, and confidently in daily life. Myofascial release can be offered on its own or combined with pelvic floor therapy for a more comprehensive, whole-body approach to healing.
